The 2016 International Symposium on Neuromorphic Cognitive Computing and Robotics will be held in Chengdu, China, Sep 21 - 23, 2016. In recent years neuromorphic computing has been an important emerging research area. There has been rapid progress in various computational theories, learning algorithms, signal processing algorithm, circuit designs and implementations, which have shown appealing computational advantages over conventional approaches. Emulating the computational principles and architecture found in neural systems, neuromorphic cognitive computing aims to develop holistic framework that involves sensory coding, synaptic learning, spike-based computing, memory and other high level brain functions. Neuromorphic cognitive computing has become an important approach in developing brain-like intelligence and systems from neuromorphic sensors, processors, microchips to cognitive robotics, brain-computer interface and cyborg intelligence. The symposium will provide an important platform for the researchers across all related fields to exchange the ideas and report recent progress, and aims to bring new theoretical and technical advances in neuromorphic cognitive computing and robotics.

"2016国际神经形态认知计算与机器人研讨会"将于2016年9月21-23日在四川成都举行。近年来,神经形态计算已经成为一个重要的新兴研究领域,在计算理论、学习算法、信号处理算法、计算机处理器等多个方面取得了快速发展,具有革新的算法、结构和超低功耗的计算优势。神经形态计算从模拟神经系统的计算原理和体系结构出发,目标是建立系统化的类脑计算架构,包括神经信息编码、突触可塑性、脉冲计算、学习算法、记忆和其他高等认知函数。神经形态计算已成为发展类脑智能和类脑系统的重要方法之一,从神经形态传感器,处理器和芯片,到认知机器人、脑机接口和混合智能。此次会议邀请相关领域国内外著名专家做主题报告,介绍其最新研究进展和重要思想,为相关领域的研究者提供了交流与学习的重要平台,将会进一步促进神经形态认知计算和机器人的理论发展和技术进步。

  • Giacomo Indiveri

    Prof. Giacomo Indiveri is a Professor at the Faculty of Science of the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He obtained an M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Genoa, Italy. Indiveri was a post-doctoral research fellow in the Division of Biology at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and at the Institute of Neuroinformatics of the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich, where he attained the Habilitation in Neuromorphic Engineering in 2006. He is an ERC fellow and an IEEE Senior member. His research interests lie in the study of real and artificial neural processing systems, and in the hardware implementation of neuromorphic cognitive systems, using full custom analog and digital VLSI technology.
    Giacomo Indiveri 教授现任瑞典苏黎世大学科学院教授,带领神经信息研究所神经形态认知系统团队对相关领域进行研究,主要包括神经计算、基于脉冲的学习和选择性注意机制、利用神经形态电路和VLSI技术对感知运动系统的硬件实现等。Giacomo Indiveri教授在意大利热那亚大学获取电气工程理科硕士学位和计算机科学博士学位。在苏黎世理工联邦理工大学神经信息研究所读取博士后;2006年获取苏黎世联邦理工学院信息技术和电气工程系神经形态工程学的任教资格;2011年被授予"Neuromorphic processors: event-based VLSI models of cortical circuits for brain-inspired computation" ERC启动基金; Indiveri是IEEE电路与系统协会(IEEE Circuits and Systems Society)中若干技术委员会(TCs)成员,还是欧洲研究委员会(European Research Council)成员。


  • XU Bo

    Prof. XU Bo (徐波) was born in Zhejiang province in China. He has been working in Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences(CASIA) after he received the Bachelor's degree from Zhejiang University in 1988. From 1988 he joined the speech research and received the Master's and Doctor's degree of the field in 1992 and 1997 respectively. Now he is the president of CASIA and associate director of CAS Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology(CEBSIT). His research interests include speech recognition, spoken dialogue system, speech translation, multimedia information processing and virtual reality. In recent years he is deeply involved in the brain-inspired intelligence research and planning.
    徐波教授在1988年获取浙江大学学士学位后一直在中国科学院自动化研究所工作。从1988年开始进行语音研究并分别在1992年和1997年拿到该领域的硕士和博士学位。1998年任中国科学院自动化研究所博士生导师。现任中国科学院自动化研究所所长、中国科学院脑科学与智能技术卓越创新中心副主任。其主要研究方向有语音识别、口语对话系统、语音翻译、多媒体信息处理和虚拟现实。近年来一直致力于脑启发智能研究与规划。


  • Ryad Benosman

    Prof. Ryad Benosman  is a full Professor with University Pierre and Marie Curie, Paris, France, leading the Natural Computation and Neuromorphic Vision Laboratory, Vision Institute, Paris. He received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in applied mathematics and robotics from University Pierre and Marie Curie in 1994 and 1999, respectively. His work covers neuromorphic visual computation and sensing and event based computation. He is currently involved in the French retina prosthetics project and in the development of retina implants and cofounder of Pixium Vision a french prosthetics company. He is an expert in complex perception systems, which embraces the conception, design, and use of different vision sensors covering omnidirectional 360 degree wide-field of view cameras, variant scale sensors, and non-central sensors. He is among the pioneers of the domain of omni-directional vision and unusual cameras and still active in this domain. His current research interests include the understanding of the computation operated along the visual systems areas and establishing a link between computational and biological vision. Ryad Benosman has authored more than 100 scientific publications and holds several patents in the area of vision, robotics, event-based sensing and prosthetics. In 2013 he was awarded with the national best French scientific paper by the Journal La Recherche for his work on neuromorphic retinas and their applications to retina stimulation and prosthetics.

  • HUANG Tiejun

    Prof. HUANG Tiejun (黄铁军) is the Head of Department and Professor of Computer Science in the School of EE&CS at the Peking University, and the Director of the Institute for Digital Media Technology in the School. His research areas include video coding, image analytic, and brain-like computing. He received Ph.D. degree in pattern recognition and intelligent system from the Huazhong (Central China) University of Science and Technology in 1998, and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in computer science from the Wuhan University of Technology in 1995 and 1992, respectively. Professor Huang joined PKU on 1 June 2007, before this he was for eight years a post-doctoral fellow, then associated Professor of Computer Science at the Institute for Computing Technology and the Graduated School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China in 2014, and was awarded the Distinguished Professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program by the Ministry of Education of China in 2015. He is a member of the Board of the Chinese Institute of Electronics, and the Advisory Board of the Computing Now of the IEEE Computer Society.
    黄铁军教授是北京大学信息科学技术学院教授,计算机科学技术系主任,数字媒体研究所所长。其主要研究方向包括视频解码、图像分析和类脑计算。1998年从华中理工大学图像识别与人工智能研究所获得博士学位,1992和1995年从武汉工业大学计算机应用专业和工业自动化专业获得学士和硕士学位。1999年在中国科学院计算技术研究所做博士后,之后又出任中国科学院研究生院和科学技术研究所的副教授。2014年获国家杰出青年科学基金资助并在2015年入选2015年度“长江学者奖励计划”特聘教授名单。他出任了中国电子学会理事以及IEEE Computer Society的Computing Now咨询委员等多项重要职位。


  • HUANG Tiejun

    Prof. Si Wu (吴思) , Professor of State Key Laboratory of Cogntive Neuroscience & Learning, Principle Investigator of IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research, Beijing Normal University. Research area is Computational Neuroscience, aiming to use mathematical models and computer simulation to elucidate general principles of neural information processing, and meanwhile, to develop brain-inspired information technology. Co-Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience and on board of a number of international journals. Publishing 100 papers, including Neuron, Nature Neuroscience, PNAS, J. Neuroscience, and NIPS.
    吴思,北京师范大学脑与认知科学研究院教授,IDG/McGovern脑科学研究所研究员,认知神经科学与学习国家重点实验室副主任。研究方向为计算神经科学,致力于用数学建模及仿真方法来揭示神经信息处理的基本原理,并由此发展类脑信息处理技术。目前担任Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience主编以及多个国际杂志编委,中国自动化学会《生物控制与生物医学工程委员会》主任。已发表论文100篇,包括Neuron, Nature Neuroscience, PNAS, J.Neurosci.,以及NIPS(9篇)。


  • Jeffrey L. Krichmar

    Prof. Jeffrey L. Krichmar received a B.S. in Computer Science in 1983 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, a M.S. in Computer Science from The George Washington University in 1991, and a Ph.D. in Computational Sciences and Informatics from George Mason University in 1997. He spent 15 years as a software engineer on projects ranging from the PATRIOT Missile System at the Raytheon Corporation to Air Traffic Control for the Federal Systems Division of IBM. In 1997, he became an assistant professor at The Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study at George Mason University. From 1999 to 2007, he was a Senior Fellow in Theoretical Neurobiology at The Neurosciences Institute. Currently, he is a Professor at the University of California, Irvine, in the Department of Cognitive Sciences, with a joint appointment in the Department of Computer Science. He leads the Cognitive Anteater Robotics Laboratory (CARL) at UC Irvine where they test computational models of nervous system function on robotic platforms and large-scale, highly detailed models of neuronal circuits. He has been involved in these fields, which are known as neuromorphic engineering and neurorobotics, for over 15 years. He has published nearly 100 articles and holds seven patents.
    Jeffrey L.   • Garrick Orchard

    Dr. Garrick Orchard is a Senior Research Scientist at Temasek Laboratories and the Singapore Institute for Neurotechnology (SINAPSE) at the National University of Singapore. He holds a B.Sc. degree (with honours, 2006) in electrical engineering from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and M.S.E. (2009) and Ph.D. (2012) degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. He was named a Paul V. Renoff fellow in 2007, a Virginia and Edward M. Wysocki Sr. fellow in 2011, and a Temasek Research Fellow in 2015. He received the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab’s Hart Prize for Best Research and Development Project, and won the best live demonstration prize at the IEEE Biomedical Circuits and Systems conference 2012. His research focuses on developing neuromorphic vision algorithms and systems for real-time sensing on mobile platforms. His other research interests include mixed-signal very large scale integration (VLSI) design, compressive sensing, spiking neural networks, visual perception, and legged locomotion.
    Garrick Orchard 博士现在在新加坡国立大学任SINAPSE博士后研究员。Orchard博士2006年在南非开普敦大学获得电气工程专业的理学学士学位,分别于2009年和2012年在约翰•霍普金斯大学获得电气和计算机工程专业的工程硕士和博士学位。在2011年成为Paul V. Renoff成员和Virginia and Edward M.   • Michael Milford

    Prof. Michael Milford is a leading robotics researcher conducting interdisciplinary research at the boundary between robotics, neuroscience and computer vision, and a multi-award winning educational entrepreneur. His research models the neural mechanisms in the brain underlying tasks like navigation and perception in order to develop new technologies, with a particular emphasis on challenging application domains where current techniques fail such as all-weather, anytime positioning for autonomous vehicles. He currently holds the position of Associate Professor at the Queensland University of Technology, as well as Australian Research Council Future Fellow, Microsoft Research Faculty Fellow and Chief Investigator on the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision. His research has attracted more than twenty million dollars in research and industry funding, both in the form of sole investigator fellowships and large team grants. Michael’s papers have won (4) or been finalists (7) for 11 best paper awards including the 2012 Best Vision paper at ICRA2012. Michael has given more than 30 invited presentations across ten countries at top international conferences, universities and corporations.
    Michael Milford 教授是昆士兰科技大学电气工程科学与工程学院副教授。Milford教授分别于2002年和2006年获取昆士兰大学机械与航天工程的学士学位和电气工程专业的博士学位,并于当年获得昆士兰年度青年成就奖(科学与技术)。在昆士兰大学获从事机器人技术方向的博士后工作,之后作为研究员在昆士兰脑研究所致力于Thinking System Project,于2010年加入在昆士兰科技大学。2012年Milford教授被澳大利亚研究理事会授予“Discovery Early Career Researcher”奖,且被聘为加拿大国家自然科学和工程研究理事会科学基金审查委员会成员, 2012获机器人与自动化国际会议机器人视觉最佳论文奖和机器人科学和系统会议的最佳论文提名。2013年他被聘为微软研究员和捷克科学基金评审委员、以色列外交部脑研究基础设施项目评审委员。2016年获聘澳大利亚研究理事会Discovery Projects和Discovery Early Career Outstanding Researcher Fellowships评审委员,与哈佛大学、波斯顿大学、昆士兰大学、伦敦帝国理工大学等多所院校一直保持着密切合作。IEEE和ARAA(Australian Robotics and Automation Association)会员。其研究方向包括基于视觉的构图和导航、啮齿类动物海马体和内嗅皮层的计算建模、仿生机器人和导航和计算机视觉、SLAM系统。


  • QIAO Hong

    Prof. QIAO Hong (乔红)is a professor with Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA). In 2004, Prof. Qiao gave up the tenure position, returned to China and founded the “Robotic Theory and Application” group (more than 50 researchers) in CASIA. In 2007, she was supported by National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Currently she is the core expert of CAS Centre for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology, the principal investigator of Neuro-robotics of Research Centre for Brain-inspired Intelligence in Institute of Automation, CAS, the vice director of Joint Lab Between the Institute of Automation and University of Sciences and Technology of China and so on. Due to her work in her research area (which will be explained below), Prof. Qiao won the Second Prize of National Natural Science Awards in 2014, won respectively the First & Second Prize of Beijing Science and Technology Award for fundamental research in 2012 & 2015. In 2013, Prof. Qiao was elected as a member of Administrative Committee, IEEE Robotics & Automation Society (RAS). Prof. Qiao has long led the group in research areas of robotic “Hand-Eye-Brain”, which includes industrial robot manipulation and control (Hand), robot vision (Eye), bio-inspired and brain-like intelligent robot (Brain), and etc. Prof. Qiao has published more than 200 papers in international journals and conferences (100+ papers are SCI Indexed). Currently she is serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Assembly Automation, and the Associate Editors for several significant international journals.
    乔红教授是中国科学院自动化研究所教授、博士生导师,2007年国家杰出青年基金获得者,2009年入选“新世纪百千万人才工程”国家级人选,中科院自动化研究所机器人中心副主任,机器人理论与应用组组长。主要研究方向为智能机器人系统和及其视觉算法。发表国际期刊文章70篇,包括IEEE Transactions, ASME,Pattern Recognition国际期刊论文20余篇,国际会议文章50余篇。乔红教授的工作被美国媒体报导,其中,"无传感器吸引域"概念被称为"乔的概念",并且认为"这个工作是现有自动装配技术的重要发展,因为它第一次提供了不用传感器和其他设备在三维空间实现高精度的装配,同时它也是在计算机和机器人领域的重要研究课题——不确定性系统研究的重要发展","这个技术可以直接应用于大型的或者中型的装配线,如汽车、计算机微型电子设备等"。


  • LI Yuanqing

    Prof. LI Yuanqing (李远清) received the B.S. degree in applied mathematics from Wuhan University in 1988, the M.S. degree in applied mathematics from South China Normal University in 1994, and the Ph.D. degree in control theory and applications from the South China University of Technology in 1997. He became a Full Professor of the South China University of Technology in 2004. He won State Natural Science Awards (second prize) in 2009, Changjiang Professorship, Ministry of Education in 2012, Distinguished Young Scholar Award, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in 2008, and so on. His research interests include blind signal processing, sparse representation, machine learning, brain–computer interface, EEG, and fMRI data analysis and has published more than 100 journal papers. He also has more than 30 publications in conferences including NIPS and WCCI. His BCI systems including brain-controlled wheelchairs were reported many times by news media including CCTV, China Daily, Australia New News and so on.
    李远清教授是华南理工大学自动化科学与工程学院教授、博士生导师,“长江学者奖励计划”特聘教授,国家杰出青年科学基金获得者。1988年毕业于武汉大学数学系应用数学专业,获理学学士学位。1994年毕业于华南师范大学数学系,获理学硕士学位。1997年毕业于华南理工大学自动控制工程系,获工学博士学位。李远清教授致力于信号稀疏表示、盲信号分离、半监督机器学习、脑机接口、脑电与功能核磁共振成像信号分析等方面的研究。近年来发表学术论文80余篇,相关成果获国家自然科学二等奖1项、教育部自然科学一等奖1项、广东省自然科学一等奖1项。李远清教授目前任华南理工大学自动化科学与工程学院“脑机接口与脑信息处理研究中心”主任、华南理工大学自动化科学与工程学院院长,任IEEE Trans. Fuzzy Systems, International Journal of Computational Intelligence and Neuroscience, Cognitive Neurodynamics国际期刊编委。


  • YAO Dezhong

    Prof. YAO Dezhong (尧德中) ( dyao@uestc.edu.cn), PhD (1991, 2005) in Applied Geophysics and Biomedical Science, respectively; Full Professor (1995-), ChangJiang Scholar Professor (2006-); Dean, School of Life Science and Technology (2001-), University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu 610054, China; Director, Key Laboratory for NeuroInformation, Ministry of Education of China (2010-); His main research interests are EEG, fMRI based various applications such as brain-computer interface, Music-Brain interaction, brain mechanism of video game playing and various clinic disorders. Since 1990, he has published 100 more peer-reviewed international journal papers, with about 4000 citations (H index=34). He won the Outstanding Youth Research Fund of NSFC (2005), and the first class Natural Science Reward of the Ministry of Education (2010).
    尧德中教授是电子科技大学生命科学与技术学院院长、教授和博士生导师,神经信息教育部重点实验室主任。他是国家杰出青年基金获得者和新世纪百千万人才工程国家级人选。尧德中教授主要从事脑机接口、脑成像、脑连接、音乐认知与脑音乐、癫痫机制等方面的研究。目前承担有国家自然基金、973、教育部创新团队等项目,与国外多个相关课题组有合作关系。已在国外重要刊物 NeuroImage, Human Brain Mapping, IEEE Trans BME/MI/CAS/AP/NSRE、Phys Med Biol、Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience、PLoS One等上发表SCI检索的论文100余篇,参编国外英文专著4部,中文教材1本、专著1本;获得教育部自然科学一等奖、四川省科技进步三等奖和教学成果二等奖各1次;申请国家发明专利6项。
